Weird Gadgets at CES 2024: Sightful’s Spacetop AR Laptop, Samsung Ballie, and More
2 min readAt CES 2024, there were numerous strange gadgets that left us puzzled, amused, and intrigued. Here are some of the most peculiar finds from the event.
1. Sightful’s Spacetop AR Laptop: This laptop, when paired with AR glasses, provides a 100-inch virtual display. Although the concept is intriguing, the narrow field of view, spongy keyboard, and high price make it a less practical option.
2. Samsung Ballie: This tiny robot follows you around and projects workout videos on the ceiling while you work out. While it’s adorable, the functionality and high cost might not justify the investment.
3. Shift Robotics Moonwalkers: These shoes aim to make walking more efficient by propelling the wearer a little further with each step. However, the high price tag makes them a less viable option for most people.
4. Volkswagen’s ChatGPT-generated dinosaur story: Volkswagen demonstrated the integration of ChatGPT in their in-dash tablets by having the car tell a story about dinosaurs. Although it’s an interesting demonstration, it’s a bit unusual and doesn’t add much value.
5. ZooGears TheButter: This “piano” is designed specifically for dogs. Teach your dog to “play” it, and you’ll be entertained for hours. The device even comes with an automated feeder to encourage your dog to keep going.
6. One by One: Downtempo music is said to soothe pets and humans alike. While the research is interesting, it’s unclear why this is a better alternative to simply using your Spotify account.
7. Flappie AI cat door: This cat door uses AI to recognize your cat and open only for them. It’s a cute and convenient solution for cat owners.
8. Adam-X CPR dummy: This medical training robot is an effective tool for CPR training. Although it’s useful, the realistic design might be a bit off-putting for some.
