The CES 2024 trade show in Las Vegas is known for showcasing the latest technological innovations. Among the unique offerings this year is the Flappie AI cat door, a Swiss start-up’s solution to prevent cats from bringing unwanted gifts into the house.

The cat door is equipped with a motion sensor and night-vision camera on the exterior side. Flappie’s AI-powered detection system, which has been developed over the years with a focus on diversity, can accurately identify cats and their prey over 90% of the time. This means that your cat may still be able to bring in a mouse, but the frequency of such occurrences is expected to decrease significantly.

Manual switches are located on the interior side of the door, allowing users to lock and unlock it, as well as turn off the prey-detection system. Flappie’s co-founders acknowledge that a clever cat might figure out how to drop the prey and then enter the house. However, no solution is foolproof.

The cat door also includes chip detection, enabling it to open only for pets that have been microchipped. An app is available for users to control the door remotely via their smartphones. However, the door can still function without an internet connection, using the controls on the door itself.

Flappie plans to launch the cat door in Switzerland, Zurich, and Germany later this spring, with future expansion to other regions, including the United States, in the pipeline. The pricing details for the US launch have not been announced yet.
