Saquon Barkley Addresses Trade Rumors Ahead of NFL Trade Deadline

2 min read

In the midst of trade rumors surrounding his future with the New York Giants, star running back Saquon Barkley has made it clear that he wants to remain with the team. With the NFL trade deadline approaching on October 31, Barkley expressed his desire to stay put.

“Everyone knows I don’t want to get traded,” Barkley said. “I don’t think anyone in their right mind would want to get traded anywhere. It’s not an easy thing to do. You have to move. I have a family. I would love to be here.”

While Barkley hopes to stay with the Giants, he is aware that the decision ultimately lies in the hands of the organization. His focus remains on being a leader for the team and helping them find success.

Currently, the Giants have a record of 1-5 and are struggling this season. After a successful run in the previous year, where they reached the postseason and even won a playoff game, this season has been a disappointment for the team.

Barkley, who missed three games due to a high ankle sprain, returned to action in Sunday night’s loss to the Buffalo Bills. He rushed for 93 yards on 24 carries. So far this season, he has accumulated 207 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Despite his impressive performances, the uncertainty surrounding Barkley’s contract situation adds to the speculation of a potential trade. Barkley was unable to reach a long-term deal with the Giants and instead settled for an adjusted franchise tag deal before the start of training camp.

Heading into the offseason, Barkley is set to become a free agent again. The Giants have the option to use the franchise tag for a second year, but there is no guarantee that they will do so.

While the idea of a trade may seem plausible given Barkley’s situation, the running back maintains that it has not been discussed with his personal team. He remains focused on his work and competing on the field.

“I can’t control that,” Barkley said. “It’s not like I’m able to make any decisions or have any say in that. The only say I have is the way I show up to work and the way I go out there and compete. That’s the things I can control.”

In the meantime, Barkley and the Giants will continue to prepare for their upcoming game against the Washington Commanders. Barkley’s presence on the field will be crucial as the team looks to turn their season around and find success.
