Samsung and LG Unveil Transparent Displays at CES 2024
2 min readSamsung and LG, two major tech companies, showcased their latest technological innovations at CES 2024, revealing similar yet distinct transparent displays. LG presented a wireless transparent OLED, while Samsung introduced a frameless transparent MicroLED display. Both displays aimed to impress with their unique capabilities and reduced wiring needs.
LG’s 77-inch OLED T, an OLED transparent display, boasts wireless transmission technology, which minimizes the need for wiring to power the display. To maintain the display’s black levels, LG incorporated a contrast screen that rolls down into a box at the base of the OLED T.
Samsung, on the other hand, presented a transparent MicroLED display, which was not only bezel-less but also frameless. Samsung emphasized the brighter capabilities of MicroLED by showcasing it alongside transparent OLED and LCD models.
Despite the impressive displays, many questions remain, including pricing, availability, and the reason for their existence. The onus is on LG and Samsung to justify the high costs of these innovative yet expensive displays.
