Paul Thomas Anderson’s New Film with Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Regina Hall

2 min read

Paul Thomas Anderson, the acclaimed director known for films such as “Magnolia,” “There Will Be Blood,” and “The Master,” is teaming up with Oscar-winning actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Regina Hall for a new, currently untitled film for Warner Bros. Anderson has written the script for the film, which takes place in a contemporary setting. The project marks a more commercial venture for Anderson, with a budget reflecting mass-market appeal. Anderson will produce the film with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner.

DiCaprio, Penn, and Hall are set to play the leads in the ensemble cast. The logline for the film is being kept under wraps, but it is reported to be a commercial film from Anderson, who previously worked with Warner Bros. on “Inherent Vice.” The move is a victory for Warner Bros., which also recently signed a deal with Tom Cruise to produce and develop both new and original films for the studio.

Anderson’s partnership with Warner Bros. came out of his experience making “Licorice Pizza,” which was produced in part by MGM. Current Warner Bros. Picture Group Co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy were running MGM during “Licorice Pizza’s” production. While “Licorice Pizza” was a box office flop, grossing just $33 million against a $40 million production budget, it was critically well-received and garnered nominations for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Director.

DiCaprio, Penn, and Hall are scheduled to play the leads, but no additional details have been revealed at this time. The film is expected to begin production this year.

Anderson’s previous films include “Magnolia,” “Boogie Nights,” “There Will Be Blood,” “The Master,” and “Phantom Thread.” His latest film, “Licorice Pizza,” was released in 2021.

DiCaprio, Penn, and Hall are all accomplished actors with impressive resumes. DiCaprio has won three Golden Globes and an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “The Revenant.” Penn has won two Academy Awards for Best Actor for “Mystic River” and “Milk.” Hall has been nominated for two Academy Awards for her roles in “Girls Trip” and “Support the Girls.”

The untitled film is expected to be a significant project for Warner Bros., and fans of Paul Thomas Anderson and the three lead actors are eagerly awaiting more information about the film. Stay tuned for updates.
