NRL player Talatau Amone found guilty of assaulting tradesman with a hammer

2 min read

Rugby League Australian NRL player, Talatau Amone, has been found guilty of assaulting a tradesman with a hammer. The 21-year-old stand-off was charged with destroying property, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the company of others, and intimidation. Following a two-day hearing in Wollongong, New South Wales, Amone was found guilty of all three offenses.

Amone’s lawyer, Elias Tabchouri, argued that the case was a matter of mistaken identity and believes that the matter is “far from over.” St George Illawarra Dragons, Amone’s club, has since released a statement stating that he has been “stood down from all club activities until further notice.”

Amone, who has represented Tonga in three international matches and has made 54 appearances for the Dragons, will be sentenced in six weeks. Tabchouri stated that they respect the court’s decision, but the matter is still ongoing, and there is an appeals process that they will explore.
