NFL Player D.J. Wonnum Suffers Partial Quad Tear
2 min readIn a recent development, Minnesota Vikings outside linebacker D.J. Wonnum has been confirmed to have a partially torn left quad. The injury is likely to require surgery, although Wonnum is seeking a second opinion. The good news is that his hip flexor remains intact.
Wonnum’s injury occurred during the Vikings’ 30-24 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. He sustained the non-contact injury to his left leg while attempting to rush the passer in the fourth quarter.
This season has been Wonnum’s best since the Vikings drafted him in the fourth round in 2020. He has posted a career-high in tackles (62) in 15 games (14 starts) and has eight sacks, which is tied for his career-high. Wonnum also made a significant contribution by returning a fumble 51 yards for a touchdown in a Week 4 win against the Carolina Panthers.
In total, Wonnum has recorded 23 sacks, 49 quarterback hits, 11 passes defensed, and 171 tackles in 62 career games (31 starts).
The Minnesota Vikings may have to rely on Pat Jones II and possibly rookie Andre Carter II for their remaining two games against the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.
Another concern for the Vikings is tight end T.J. Hockenson, who is undergoing an MRI exam on his right knee. Hockenson has been a key player for the team this season, leading with 95 catches, 960 receiving yards, and five touchdowns in 15 games (11 starts).
NFL Network first reported the nature of Wonnum’s injury.
This news comes as a significant blow to the Minnesota Vikings, who are already facing challenges in their upcoming games. Fans and teammates will be hoping for a speedy recovery for both Wonnum and Hockenson, as their contributions to the team have been crucial this season.
