Modder Fixes Skill Progression Bug in Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.01

3 min read

PC players of Cyberpunk 2077 who play as Headhunters and Shinobi can now breathe a sigh of relief as a modder has addressed the issue of passive skill effects not working properly in saves made after the 2.01 patch. This problem affected several players who found that the minor buffs associated with progressing in skills like Headhunter and Shinobi were not activating as intended in saves made after the release of the 2.01 update. This prompted a modder by the name of rmk1234 to create a fix for the problem.

The mod, titled “Fix Skill Progression Rewards Not Applying,” is the work of rmk1234, who has previously developed mods to address other minor bugs in the game such as quickhacking and proximity mine audio issues. According to the mod’s description, a total of 16 passive effects were affected by the skill bug, with Headhunter and Shinobi being the most heavily affected. Solo, Netrunner, and Engineer skills also had one or two levels that were not behaving properly.

The modder explained the reason why only certain passives were affected, stating, “The reason these are affected and not all (of the passives) just has to do with the method the game uses to apply each reward in-game.” They also mentioned that they haven’t been able to see Netrunner 60 (overclock hack through walls up to 10m) working at all and speculate that it may be a generally broken mechanic.

As for why the issue only appeared in saves made using version 2.01, the modder suggested that it might be due to the game now properly saving something that it wasn’t before, unintentionally revealing another logic bug. Although it is likely that CD Projekt Red, the developer of Cyberpunk 2077, is already working on an official fix for this issue, the modder’s fix provides an immediate solution for those who don’t want to wait.

It is worth noting that the modder’s fix is not a permanent solution and may conflict with future patches or updates to the game. CD Projekt Red may release an official fix in their next major patch, which players should keep an eye out for.

In the meantime, players can download and install the “Fix Skill Progression Rewards Not Applying” mod to address the passive skill effects not working properly issue in their saves made in the 2.01 patch. It is recommended to follow the instructions provided by rmk1234 and ensure that the mod is compatible with your game version.

As more information becomes available or if CD Projekt Red acknowledges the issue and releases an official fix, this article will be updated accordingly.
