Justin Fields Leads Chicago Bears to Victory Over Arizona Cardinals

3 min read

In a thrilling game on Sunday night, the Chicago Bears emerged victorious against the Arizona Cardinals, securing their sixth win of the season. The Bears’ quarterback, Justin Fields, played a crucial role in the team’s success, throwing for a touchdown and running for another score. This victory came after the Bears’ late collapse at Cleveland a week earlier, and it was a much-needed bounce-back win for the team.

The game began with tight end Cole Kmet catching four passes for a career-high 107 yards, despite missing the second half due to a knee injury. Khalil Herbert also made a significant contribution, running for a season-high 112 yards and a touchdown. The Bears’ strong performance in the first half saw them take a 21-0 lead against the Cardinals.

However, the Cardinals managed to make a comeback, cutting the score to 24-16 with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Despite this, the Bears held on and secured their victory. The team finished the game with a total of 420 yards, with 250 of those coming from rushing.

Justin Fields completed 15 out of 27 passes for 170 yards and added 97 yards rushing. His performance included the longest run by a Bears player this season, when he broke off a 39-yarder to the 14-yard line in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, he was intercepted in the end zone on the next play.

Cole Kmet’s impressive performance in the first half contributed significantly to the Bears’ success. He set up the game’s first touchdown with a diving 53-yard catch and played a crucial role in Fields’ touchdown pass to Marcedes Lewis in the second quarter.

Khalil Herbert’s 11-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter further boosted the Bears’ lead.

On the other side, Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback Kyler Murray threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns. He has been playing well since his return from a torn ACL in 2022, which caused him to miss approximately 11 months of the game. James Conner, a running back for the Cardinals, also had a notable performance, catching five passes for 67 yards and a touchdown while running for 45 yards.

The Cardinals’ performance in the game was not up to par, as they finished with only 93 yards rushing after previously managing to rack up 234 yards in a blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Injuries were a concern for both teams during the game. Cardinals’ linebacker Zaven Collins suffered a foot injury in the first half, while defensive end Jonathan Ledbetter was helped to the sideline early in the fourth quarter after sustaining a knee injury.

For the Bears, wide receiver DJ Moore went to the medical tent with an ankle injury after the game’s second play from scrimmage. However, he returned to the field late in the first quarter.

Looking ahead, the Arizona Cardinals are scheduled to visit the Philadelphia Eagles on December 31, while the Chicago Bears will host the Atlanta Falcons on the same day. Both teams will be hoping to end the year on a high note and carry their momentum into the next season.
