Former Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim has recently finalized a deal to join ESPN in November as a college basketball broadcaster. Boeheim, known for his sarcasm, surly takes, and brutal honesty, will also broadcast some games for Westwood One. Boeheim expressed his excitement about staying involved in the game of basketball, despite turning 79 next month. He believes that despite the challenges outside the game, there is more balance in college basketball than ever before, with the name, image, and likeness (NIL) rules playing a significant role.

Boeheim stated that the NIL rules are inadvertently helping college basketball become stronger by keeping some players in college longer. He believes that it’s good for the sport and brings more balance to the game. Boeheim’s perspective on the NIL rules aligns with his belief that college basketball has more stability and competitiveness thanks to these regulations.

Joining Boeheim in the broadcast booth will be former Villanova coach Jay Wright. Wright, who won two national championships at Villanova, did studio work for CBS during March Madness last season after retiring in 2022. The addition of both Boeheim and Wright to the broadcasting team brings a wealth of coaching experience and knowledge to the commentators’ desk.

Boeheim’s coaching career at Syracuse came to an end in March when the university announced his retirement after a 47-year tenure. Syracuse named former guard and assistant coach Adrian “Red” Autry as his successor. Autry had been on Boeheim’s staff since 2011, and he held the title of associate head coach since March 2017. Autry expressed gratitude for the influence of both Syracuse University and Boeheim in his life, stating that without them, he would not have the incredible opportunity before him.

During his time as coach, Boeheim led Syracuse to great success, including winning the 2003 NCAA championship with a team led by Carmelo Anthony and guiding the Orange to five Final Fours. His coaching legacy at Syracuse is indelible and will forever be recognized as one of the strongest influential forces in the program’s history.

As Boeheim transitions from coaching to broadcasting, he brings his unique perspective, expertise, and sarcasm to the ESPN broadcast team. Fans can expect Boeheim’s honest and insightful analysis as he continues to contribute to the game he loves.
