Japanese Startup Aromajoin Introduces Aroma Shooter Wearable at CES 2024

2 min read

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, Japanese startup Aromajoin presented the Aroma Shooter Wearable, a device designed to enhance the sensory experience of virtual reality (VR) by delivering scents through a neckband. The wearable, which is still in its early stages, is controlled by a mobile device or PC via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or USB. Aromajoin aims to target developers and business clients, offering them a library of “hundreds” of scents to choose from, including custom scents from fragrance brands.

During the CES demo, a video player app was programmed to cycle through six scents – lavender, blueberry, shampoo, caramel, smoke, and fresh cut grass – to match the six scenes in a short clip. The scent addition significantly boosted the immersion, and the potential impact would be even greater when paired with VR.

The Aroma Shooter Wearable is planned to be launched via crowdfunding in May 2024, with shipment expected by the end of the year. The target price for the device is around $350, and each scent cartridge is estimated to cost around $30. Each cartridge should last for approximately 3,000 shots or up to three months, depending on the intensity and nature of the scent mixture.

Aromajoin also introduced the Aroma Speaker 60, a larger setup aimed at retailers, cinemas, and VR arcades. This pair of towers can be equipped with up to 60 scents, with each magazine holding six scents, thus supporting a wider range of scenes or use cases. The Aroma Speaker 60 will also be launched via crowdfunding, but it is expected to cost significantly more than the neckband counterpart.
