Old Dominion Men’s Basketball Coach Jeff Jones recently suffered a heart attack, as confirmed by the school. The 63-year-old coach is expected to make a full recovery, but he will remain in the hospital in Honolulu for the next 48-72 hours. Jones was in Hawaii for Old Dominion’s game against Texas Christian in the Diamond Head Classic tournament.

Assistant coach Kieran Donohue has been named the interim coach for Thursday’s game and will continue in this role for Old Dominion’s two remaining games in Hawaii. Jones was appointed the Monarchs’ head coach in 2013, having previously coached the American University basketball team.

Under Jones’ leadership, Old Dominion made it to the NCAA tournament berth during the 2018-19 season. The timeline for Jones’ return to coaching remains uncertain, but he has a 203-131 record at Old Dominion. He began his coaching career in 1982 as an assistant at Virginia and later served as the Cavaliers’ head coach from 1990-98.

The Monarchs are scheduled to open their Sun Belt Conference play with a matchup against South Alabama on December 30th.
