Final Fantasy XIV’s New Class: Pictomancer
2 min readFinal Fantasy XIV, the critically acclaimed MMORPG, recently revealed its latest expansion, Dawntrail, at the Fan Festival in Tokyo. The event brought new information on the expansion, including the introduction of a new job class: Pictomancer.
The Pictomancer class was first introduced in Final Fantasy VI but was only able to draw enemies to attack them. However, in Final Fantasy XIV, Pictomancers will have the ability to draw enemies, weapons, and landscapes, as well as utilize support spells. Unfortunately, game producer Naoki Yoshida did not cosplay the Pictomancer class during the event, stating it would be difficult for him to portray the image of this job as a 50-year-old man.
Dawntrail is set to release on FFXIV time, meaning its summer 2024 launch window won’t be in October. Additionally, the expansion will introduce a new playable race, female Hrothgar, adding gender parity to the once male-only Hrothgar race. The new player hub city, Solution 9, was also revealed, featuring a distinct summer vacation in the tropics vibe with cyberpunk/futuristic elements.
The Pictomancer and Solution 9 drew excited applause from fans, but the biggest response came in reaction to the news that Dawntrail will allow players to use not one but two dyes to customize armor and clothing. This confirms that glamour is indeed the true endgame for Final Fantasy XIV players.
The release date for Dawntrail is not yet confirmed, but players will get a soft introduction to its characters in the next phase of the FFXIV main story quest, launching with patch 6.55 on January 16th.
There were also other exciting announcements at the event, such as Apple offering Vision Pro demos at its retail stores and Nvidia’s GeForce Now getting cloud G-Sync support and streaming day passes. Stay tuned for more updates on these and other tech news.
