Exobrew: A Beginner-Friendly Homebrew Beer Making System with Temperature-Controlled Keg

2 min read

Exobrew, a new homebrew beer making system, made its debut at CES 2024. The device, which is targeted towards beginners, features a temperature-controlled keg that handles everything from boiling to serving. During the brewing process, the keg pumps hot water over the grains for the mash and redirects it for the boil to avoid over extraction. The temperature-controlled keg then cools things off for the yeast addition and fermentation. The entire process takes about four hours and requires minimal human intervention.

The Exobrew is controlled through an app and downloads recipes from the cloud. It comes with a focus on kits that come with all the ingredients pre-parsed, crushed, and ready to go. However, users can also design their own recipes or use recipes from other users, but this privilege is locked behind a $9 a month (or $90 a year) subscription.

The fact that everything from the mash to the boil to fermentation to serving happens from a single vessel, with no need for refrigeration, sets the Exobrew apart from other systems. It also comes with features to avoid common beermaking pitfalls that produce off flavors, such as a system for keeping dimethyl sulfide from dripping back into the brew, a filter in the top of the keg to help clear out sediment, and a conical interior with a small valve at the bottom to remove trub (another form of sediment).

The Exobrew is relatively large and expensive, with a price tag of $879. Pre-orders for the device are open now, with a down payment of $165 and the rest due when manufacturing commences. Production units are expected to ship sometime in the first quarter of the year.
