England’s Jack Brown to Join Squad for Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup Final Rematch Against France

3 min read

England’s Wheelchair Rugby League team has announced that Jack Brown, an Australia-based player, will be joining their squad for the upcoming World Cup final rematch against France on 5th November. Brown will be among the eleven players participating in a pre-match training camp, with the team coming together in the week leading up to the game. The training camp is scheduled to take place at the National Football Centre at St George’s Park on the weekend of 28th-29th October.

This highly anticipated rematch comes after England’s victory over France in the World Cup final last year, where they emerged as the winners with a score of 28-24. The team is looking forward to maintaining the momentum they have built and showcasing their skills once again.

The squad for the match will include Tom Halliwell, who captained the team during the World Cup and scored the match-winning try in the final. It will also feature Lewis King, the recipient of the Wheels of Steel award, as well as two players from the Grand Final-winning Wigan Warriors. Coach Tom Coyd expressed his gratitude to the other four members of the performance squad for their contributions throughout the year. Ewan Clibbens, Freya Levy, Tristan Norfolk, and Jason Owen have all had exceptional seasons for their respective clubs and have been instrumental in the team’s previous squad sessions. They continue to be valued members and are being considered for future opportunities.

Selecting international squads is always a challenging task, and it reflects the intense competition for places within the sport following the success of the previous World Cup. Coach Coyd acknowledged this and emphasized the significance of the rematch against France as an ideal platform for maintaining the team’s progress.

Prior to the match, Coach Coyd will trim down the squad to nine players. The game, which will be held in Leeds, is set to be broadcast live on BBC Two, allowing fans to witness the action and support their team.

The selected squad for the match against France consists of Seb Bechara (Catalans Dragons), Wayne Boardman (Halifax Panthers), Jack Brown (North Queensland), Josh Butler (Leeds Rhinos), Nathan Collins (Leeds Rhinos), Joe Coyd (London Roosters), Tom Halliwell (Leeds Rhinos), Rob Hawkins (Halifax Panthers), Jack Heggie (Wigan Warriors), Lewis King (London Roosters), Tom Martin (Halifax Panthers), and Adam Rigby (Wigan Warriors).
