Diablo 4 to Receive Ray Tracing Update in March

3 min read

According to recent news, Diablo 4 will receive a new update in March that will enable Ray Tracing on PC. Blizzard has utilized this technology to enhance the game’s reflections and shadows. The following is a brief overview of the upcoming update.

The Ray Tracing reflections can be quite noticeable in certain instances. However, the ray-traced shadows may not be as impressive as some might expect. It is unclear why the game did not make use of RTGI, but the lighting in Diablo 4 already looks excellent.

Diablo 4 boasts impressive performance, even at native 4K on high-end GPUs like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. The game also supports DLSS 3. Given its excellent performance, many PC gamers will likely be able to enable these RT effects.

NVIDIA has provided some initial performance numbers, which indicate that without any upscaling technique, Diablo 4 drops below 60fps. With DLSS 3, the game can run at over 150fps. However, the specific GPU used for these tests has not been disclosed.

In conclusion, Diablo 4 will look even better with Ray Tracing, but these RT effects are not essential. They serve as a pleasant addition for those who can already achieve high framerates. If you have a high-end GPU, enabling these effects can slightly improve the game’s image quality. If not, they can be safely ignored.

NVIDIA has yet to release the video for the Diablo 4 Ray Tracing update, but it will be shared once it becomes available. In the meantime, you can watch the D4 Ray Tracing trailer in the CES 2024 livestream video attached below.
