Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor’s Early Access Release: A New Twist on a Beloved Co-op Game
3 min readDeep Rock Galactic: Survivor, the Vampire Survivors-like spinoff of the popular co-op game Deep Rock Galactic, is set to launch into early access on February 14, 2024. This new game offers a bullet heaven twist on the original, allowing players to take on hordes of alien bugs alone, rather than in the traditional co-op fashion.
The early access release of Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor includes a full selection of four playable dwarves, a more diverse array of underground biomes, and a vast array of weapons. Unlike the original Deep Rock Galactic, this game is a strictly solo affair, but players will still be able to kit out each dwarf with permanent upgrades and weapon overclocks.
While the game has only been in development for a short time since the last time I played a basic build, the early access release promises to offer a wealth of new content. The Scout class, which I have had the opportunity to try, is just the tip of the iceberg. I am particularly excited to try the Driller and Engineer classes, as their unique abilities should provide interesting gameplay mechanics.
The Driller’s drill hands should be ideal for tactical terrain-carving, and I look forward to seeing how they will be utilized in the game. Additionally, the Engineer’s ability to place sentry guns should offer a strategic advantage in combat situations. I hope that these guns do not require manual reloading, as I have found that to be a tedious task in the original Deep Rock Galactic.
Funday Games, the Danish studio developing Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, has been working hard to ensure that the game stays true to the original while also offering new ways to play. The team is looking forward to releasing into early access, as it will give them a chance to gather feedback from players and shape the game accordingly.
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is being developed in collaboration with Ghost Ship Games, the creators of the original Deep Rock Galactic. The game is set to cost £10 / 10 / €10 upon release.
Anders Leicht Rohde, Funday’s co-founder and creative director, expressed his excitement about the upcoming release in a press release. “We’ve come a long way since we met the Ghost Ship team two years ago during Gamescom,” he said. “That’s where the idea of a Deep Rock Galactic shoot’em up spin off was born, and our team’s been hard at work since to make sure the game stays true to the original, but also offers new ways to play. We’re looking forward to releasing into Early Access, as it’ll give us a chance to listen to feedback and shape the game alongside players!”
While the release of Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is an exciting development for fans of the original game, there are other projects in the works as well. Ghost Ship Games is currently developing Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, a roguelite spin on the more familiar first-person, co-op shootering. The release date for this game has yet to be announced.
Additionally, the original Deep Rock Galactic’s Season 5 update has been delayed to June 2024, supposedly to make room for these side projects.
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor offers a fresh take on the beloved co-op game, allowing players to take on hordes of alien bugs alone while still offering the permanent upgrades and weapon overclocks that make the original game so engaging. The early access release is set to offer a wealth of new content, and I am excited to see how the game develops over time.
Whether you are a fan of the original Deep Rock Galactic or are new to the series, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is sure to offer a unique and engaging experience. With its fast-paced combat and diverse array of weapons and biomes, this game is sure to provide hours of entertainment for players of all skill levels.
So mark your calendars, miners. February 14, 2024, is the date that Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor will be released into early access. Get ready to drill, shoot, and survive in this new and exciting take on a beloved game.
