Christopher Judge on God of War: Ragnarok and Respecting TC Carson’s Performance
1 min readChristopher Judge, the actor who voiced Kratos in the God of War series, recently discussed his approach to the character and his respect for TC Carson, the actor who voiced Kratos in the earlier games. Judge stated that he did not watch any scenes from the earlier games because he believed it would be disrespectful to try to voice match Carson’s performance. Instead, Judge focused on making his own mark on the character.
Judge’s comments come after a recent interview where he discussed his thoughts on potentially voicing a younger version of Kratos. He expressed that he would not be interested in taking on such a role out of respect for Carson’s work. Judge also mentioned that he was offered a role that required him to match the voice of a character, but he turned it down.
In the God of War: Ragnarok DLC, there is a moment where Kratos encounters an illusion of his former self. While this apparition does not say anything, it is possible that the role Judge turned down involved this moment in the DLC.
Judge’s performance in the God of War series has been widely praised, and he was nominated for his work at The Game Awards in 2018. His decision to not voice match Carson’s performance shows his respect for the original actor and his dedication to making his own unique interpretation of the character.
