Jakob Marsee, a San Diego Padres prospect outfielder, has been making waves in the Arizona Fall League. Playing for the Peoria Javelinas, Marsee has been impressing scouts with his performance.

Marsee’s impressive stat line includes a .274 batting average, a .413 on-base percentage, and a .428 slugging percentage. He has also managed to hit 16 doubles, three triples, and 16 home runs, while driving in 46 runs. Additionally, Marsee has showcased his speed on the bases, stealing 46 bases in 55 attempts.

Before joining the Fall League, Marsee played for Class-A Advanced Fort Wayne in the Midwest League and Double-A San Antonio in the Texas League. In total, he achieved a combined stat line of .274/.413/.428/.840 with 16 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs, and 46 RBIs in 568 plate appearances.

Marsee’s performance in the Fall League has caught the attention of one scout, who believes that he may be a better player than his rankings and overall projections suggest. This scout has been impressed with virtually every aspect of Marsee’s game.

Marsee was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 6th round of the 2022 draft. Prior to his professional career, he attended Allen Park High School in Allen Park, Michigan, and Central Michigan University. Marsee received a $250,000 signing bonus from the Padres, and it appears that the team got a great deal.

As a college player, Marsee hit .345 as a redshirt sophomore at Central Michigan. He demonstrated excellent contact skills during his college years, which have followed him into his professional career.

Marsee is a left-handed hitter and thrower, and he projects to become an excellent major league leadoff hitter. He has a knack for getting on base and uses his excellent contact and speed to get his fair share of infield hits and line drives to the gaps.

In terms of his physical attributes, Marsee is listed at 6-0 and 180 pounds by the Fall League. However, it is noted that he may be a bit heavier than that. He has a solid and strong frame, and he uses his entire body in his measured swing.

Marsee has shown pop and power in his bat, and there is potential for even more to come. He has no trouble handling fastballs and has an excellent understanding of the strike zone. He can hit any type of pitch, including breaking balls, and has the ability to foul off pitches, choosing to swing only at pitches he feels he can drive.

Defensively, Marsee has the baseball instincts, first-step quickness, and route-running knowledge and ability to take control in center field. If he doesn’t win a center field role, he can easily fit as a leadoff hitting, pace-setting left fielder. While his arm strength and carry on his outfield throws are average, this scout does not project him as a right fielder.

In the Fall League, Marsee has been making an impact on his Peoria club, setting the tone from the top of the batting order. He is a gamer who does what is necessary to get on base, steal second, and score. It would not be surprising to see Marsee begin a game with a leadoff home run as he progresses in his development.

After being named the Arizona Fall League Player of the Week, Marsee’s performance has continued to impress. As of October 24, he is hitting .370/.486/.630/1.115 with six doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases this fall. He has not been caught stealing.

Based on his performance, this scout gives Marsee a scouting grade of 55, indicating that he is an above-average major league contributor. Marsee is expected to provide quality at-bats, solid defense, and the ability to steal bases or take an extra base when necessary.

Overall, Jakob Marsee’s impressive performance in the Arizona Fall League has caught the attention of scouts and has the potential to make him a valuable asset to the San Diego Padres in the future.
