Apple Addresses iPhone 15 Overheating Problem, Blaming Bug and Third-Party Apps
2 min readApple has acknowledged a bug in its operating system and recent updates to third-party apps, including Instagram, for causing some users’ new iPhone 15 devices to overheat since the latest model’s release in September. Complaints have arisen as users found their phones becoming uncomfortably hot to touch.
The tech giant has attributed this issue to a bug that emerged during the update to iOS 17 on the iPhone 15. Additionally, Apple stated that changes made to third-party apps have “caused them to overload the system.” While it’s common for iPhones to generate heat during initial setup or backups due to the intensive processing and high demands on the device, these problems with the iPhone 15 have been more severe, leading to user complaints on social media platforms.
Apple has offered an explanation, noting that the device may feel warmer in the first few days “after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity.” The company further clarified, saying, “We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhones to run warmer than expected.” Among these conditions is a bug in iOS 17, the latest version of Apple’s software available for its most recent iPhone models.
Furthermore, Apple attributed part of the problem to recent updates made by third-party app developers, leading to system overloads. The company is actively collaborating with app developers to implement fixes, which are currently in the process of being rolled out. Some of the apps held responsible for the overheating issue include Instagram, Uber, and the video game Asphalt 9, according to Apple. Instagram has already addressed the issue with its app in a recent update.
It is essential to note that the bug fix for iOS 17 will not compromise the iPhone’s performance to resolve the overheating problem. Apple also dispelled speculations that the issue was related to the new titanium casing used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, replacing the stainless steel used in older models. Likewise, the tech giant clarified that the problem is unrelated to the new USB-C port, which was introduced to comply with a mandate issued by European regulators. Apple emphasized that the overheating issue poses no safety or injury risk and will not affect the long-term performance of the iPhone 15.
While Apple has addressed the concerns and identified the culprits behind the overheating problems, users are hopeful that these issues will be resolved in subsequent updates, ensuring a smoother and cooler experience with their iPhone 15 devices.
