An In-Depth Analysis of Tekken 8’s UE5 Lumen Feature
4 min readThe much-anticipated fighting game, Tekken 8, is set to release tomorrow, and with it comes the excitement for its latest graphical enhancement – Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen. In this article, we delve deeper into the comparison of Tekken 8’s visuals with and without UE5’s Lumen feature.
A few days ago, we reported on a tool that enables UE5’s Lumen in the PC demo of Tekken 8. This tool allows users to enable Lumen for both Global Illumination and Reflections. However, the results are not uniform across all stages.
Let us begin with the City stage, where the benefits of UE5’s Lumen are evident. The City stage looks significantly better and more realistic with Lumen. The enhanced lighting brings out the intricacies of the environment, making it a visual treat for players. In comparison, the baked-in lighting from Bandai Namco appears less impressive.
However, things take a turn for the worse when we move on to the Cave stage. For some reason, Lumen fails to light up the bricks and the grass in the background. Moreover, the characters appear less realistic with Lumen. In this particular stage, Lumen falls short in every aspect.
The Forest stage presents another challenge for UE5’s Lumen. With Lumen On, we notice fewer shadows, and the environment appears flatter. This stage, too, benefits more from the baked-in lighting.
In conclusion, Lumen does not bring any major visual improvements to the table. It will not transform the game into what Bandai Namco initially showcased. While some stages may look better, most of them will have visual issues. Therefore, it is advisable not to bother with it.
On a brighter note, TekkenOverlay, a tool that allows users to unlock the game’s framerate, appears to be working flawlessly. By using this tool, players can set their desired framerate, resulting in a smoother gaming experience. However, it is essential to note that using this tool while playing online may lead to a ban. Therefore, it is recommended to use it only while playing offline.

As we eagerly await the release of Tekken 8, it is essential to understand the implications of its graphical enhancements. While Lumen may not be a game-changer, it is an exciting addition to the game. Stay tuned for more updates on Tekken 8 and other gaming news.
