Jake Paul Signs Multi-Fight Contract with PFL, Expanding into MMA

2 min read

YouTube sensation Jake Paul has signed a multi-fight contract with the Professional Fighters League (PFL), a mixed martial arts organization. This move marks a dramatic shift in Paul’s combat sports career, as he ventures into the world of MMA after achieving a 6-0 record in professional boxing. With this new contract, Paul is expected to compete in both sports in 2023.

In a statement released by PFL, Paul expressed his excitement about this new opportunity. He stated, “I’ve proven myself in and out of the boxing ring, and now I am going to do the same in MMA — and there is no limit to the positive impact I can make on the sport. I plan to enter the PFL SmartCage and once again show the world that anything is possible with hard work and dedication.”

The PFL deal involves a collaboration between Paul and the league, coinciding with the launch of a new “Super Fight” division. Events from this division will be broadcast on pay-per-view. When Paul initially stepped into the boxing ring, many doubted the substance behind his fights beyond the hype. However, he has silenced skeptics by showcasing his dedication to improving his fighting skills. Notably, his last four victories have been against MMA athletes, including Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (twice), and Anderson Silva.

Beyond his in-ring performances, Paul has shown a commitment to promoting the rights of female fighters in the boxing world. He has pledged to continue this advocacy in the MMA realm as well. “I am aligned with PFL to evolve the sport,” Paul stated. “I believe in PFL, their mission, and what they have accomplished in a very short period of time. I invite all top MMA fighters, both men and women, to join the PFL and get a payday like they’ve never had before.”

The PFL’s announcement revealed that the Super Fight division will hold two events this year and is open for immediate business. One of the most captivating aspects of this division is the promise of a groundbreaking revenue split, ensuring that fighters will earn at least 50% of the pay-per-view earnings. Paul has been vocal about his criticism of UFC chief Dana White, accusing him of underpaying fighters. In addition to fighting for PFL, Paul will also assume the role of Head of Fighter Advocacy, where he will utilize his massive social media following to generate interest in the league.

Although Paul’s move into MMA may raise doubts about his ability to compete in a different discipline, his track record has consistently proven that underestimating him is unwise. His recent victory over UFC legend Anderson Silva further solidified his credibility in combat sports. As Paul steps into the world of MMA, he will undoubtedly face challenges, but his determination and drive will likely continue to surprise both critics and supporters alike.
