Samsung Unveils Transparent MicroLED Displays at CES 2024

1 min read

Samsung made a significant splash at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 with the unveiling of the world’s first transparent MicroLED displays. The demonstration of these innovative panels left attendees in awe, as the content seemed to float in mid-air like a hologram.

Samsung presented three different transparent micro LED displays, each with unique designs. Two of the demo units featured tinted glass, which helped minimize distractions from objects behind the panels. The third display appeared as transparent as regular glass, boasting a frameless design.

The effect of these transparent micro OLED displays is difficult to describe in words. In person, the screens appeared to have a holographic quality, with images looking incredibly sharp due to the high pixel density of micro LEDs. All of the demo units were freestanding and measured only about a centimeter thick, further enhancing the illusion of a floating screen.

A Samsung representative mentioned that transparent MicroLED displays have higher brightness compared to transparent OLED panels, making them less susceptible to ambient light. However, the current cost of Samsung’s non-transparent MicroLED TVs, which starts at $150,000 for a 110-inch model, suggests that it will be some time before these new displays become affordable for the average consumer.

Stay tuned for more updates from CES 2024 in Las Vegas from January 6-12.
