Former President Trump Urges Michigan Election Officials to Refrain from Certifying 2020 Election Results

2 min read

In a recently revealed phone call, former President Donald Trump allegedly urged two members of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers not to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election. The conversation, which took place on November 17, 2020, was reportedly recorded and reviewed by The Detroit News.

During the call, Trump expressed his concerns about the election’s integrity and urged the canvassers, Monica Palmer and William Hartmann, not to sign the certification. He stated, “We’ve got to fight for our country. We can’t let these people take our country away from us.”

Trump was joined on the call by Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, who also urged the canvassers not to certify the results. McDaniel allegedly told them, “If you can go home tonight, do not sign it. We will get you attorneys.”

Following the phone call, Palmer and Hartmann had already voted to certify the election but later attempted to rescind their votes. In signed affidavits, they claimed they were bullied into siding with the Democrats.

Palmer stated, “I voted not to certify, and I still believe this vote should not be certified. Until these questions are addressed, I remain opposed to certification of the Wayne County results.” Hartmann echoed her sentiments, saying, “I voted not to certify, and I still believe this vote should not be certified. Until these questions are addressed, I remain opposed to certification of the Wayne County results.”

The former president’s actions were taken in the belief that the election was “stolen,” despite no evidence to support this claim. Trump and his supporters have continued to push for investigations into the 2020 election results, despite numerous courts ruling against them.

In response to the revelations, a Trump campaign spokesperson defended the former president’s actions, stating, “All of President Trump’s actions were taken in furtherance of his duty as President of the United States to faithfully take care of the laws and ensure election integrity.”

This incident highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding the 2020 presidential election and the efforts of some individuals to undermine the democratic process.
