President Biden Issues Cryptic Warning to Iran

2 min read

President Biden issued a cryptic warning to Iran on Wednesday, urging them to “be careful.” This statement comes in the wake of his administration’s ongoing denial of any links between Iran and the brutal attacks conducted by Hamas, which resulted in the tragic deaths of over 1,200 people in Israel.

The President’s warning was delivered during a conversation with a group of Jewish leaders at the White House, just one day after he notably refrained from mentioning Iran in his speech addressing the attacks. Biden’s message included a commitment to provide additional military support to the Israeli Defense Force. This support encompasses ammunition, interceptors to replenish the Iron Dome, the relocation of the U.S. carrier fleet to the Eastern Mediterranean, and the dispatch of more fighter jets to the region. In no uncertain terms, Biden conveyed to the Iranians, “Be careful.”

The administration’s stance earlier in the day was reiterated by National Security Counsel spokesperson John Kirby. He emphasized their belief that there was no concrete evidence connecting Iran to the heinous actions perpetrated by Hamas over the weekend. However, Kirby also acknowledged the possibility that this assessment could evolve in the future as intelligence continues to be assessed.

In a report by The Wall Street Journal, it was revealed that Iranian security officials had sanctioned Hamas’ plan to attack Israel during a meeting in Beirut on October 2. Hamas and Hezbollah leaders further claimed that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had been collaborating with Hamas since August on air, land, and sea attack strategies. An advisor to the Syrian government, who is also a European official, corroborated these assertions.

During a televised address on Tuesday, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expressed support for the attack, saying, “We kiss the hands of those who planned the attack.” Khamenei, donning a Palestinian scarf, made his first broadcast remarks since Hamas initiated attacks on Israel and reiterated that Tehran was not involved, according to Reuters.

Following the attack, the Biden administration has faced heightened criticism for unfreezing $6 billion in Iranian assets.
